We are looking to expand our board of Trustees with up to three enthusiastic, motivated, and committed people, who can contribute to our team in one or more of these key areas

Do you want to make a difference in the life of cats?

Feline Care is a small but growing, independent charity in Norfolk, that offers cats a loving home, with the hope of finding them their 'forever' home.

We prioritise the cats who need us most and offer permanent sanctuary to those who are truly unwanted.

We actively support unowned cats in the community and have a productive trap, neuter and return scheme in place for stray, feral and farm cats.

Our small but hard working team care passionately about all cats, regardless of age, health or temperament.

Previous experience as a Trustee is not necessary as training will be provided.

The role of a Trustee

You will join a group of dedicated colleagues on the Trustee Board. All Trustees contribute to the development of our long-term goals: setting and monitoring financial budgets, policy, evaluating operational performance against our aims and objectives, governance and meeting our legal obligations (including those regulated by the Charity Commission.)

Candidates will need to demonstrate a willingness to commit the necessary time and effort and to attend all four quarterly board meetings in person. Trustee roles are voluntary unpaid roles.

Trustee & Accounting (Treasurer)

Accounting qualification and/or experience and knowledge of accounts and financial management is required for this role.

The Finance and Accounting Trustee will advise the Board on relevant financial policies, standards, and strategies then will have oversight of Feline Care’s finances, liaising closely with the Animal Sanctuary Centre Manager and bookkeeping volunteer/s and maintaining a strong link with the Founder and Chair Trustee.

This role carries further formal responsibility for the overall finance function including monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.

Communications & Marketing

Marketing and public relations working experience and knowledge of marketing practises are required in this role, to take the lead on income generation and promoting the charity.

The Trustee will advise the Board on relevant marketing procedures, standards, and strategies with the oversight of our social media, and event presence.

You will liaise closely with the Animal Sanctuary Centre Manager and maintain a strong link with the Founder and Fundraising Trustee.

This role will advise on future development to increase the charity’s visibility across a wider audience.

Fundraising

Fundraising experience and knowledge of fundraising practices are required in this role.

The Fundraising Trustee will advise the Board on relevant fundraising procedure, standards, and strategies with the oversight of our charity shop in Attleborough, our online shops and any other fundraising opportunities.

You will liaise closely with the Animal Sanctuary Centre Manager, Shop Manager and maintain a strong link with the Communications & Marketing Trustee.

Additional duties will include providing advice, seeking out opportunities, preparing bids and other fundraising objectives in support of our trust deed.

Duties

These agreements will apply to all trustee roles

• Make sure that Feline Care is fulfilling the purpose for which it is intended and no other purpose.
• Ensure you understand Feline Care’s purposes as set out in its governing document.
• Plan what Feline Care will do, and what you want it to achieve.
• Be able to explain how all of Feline Care’s activities are intended to further or support its purposes and understand how Feline Care benefits the public by carrying out its purposes.
• Make sure and be able to demonstrate that Feline Care is well run, complies with its governing document and complies with charity law requirements and other laws that apply to Feline Care.
• Take reasonable steps to find out about legal requirements, for example by reading relevant guidance or taking appropriate advice when you need to.
• Do what you and your co-trustees (and no one else) decide will best enable Feline Care to carry out its purposes.
• With your co-trustees, make balanced and adequately informed decisions, thinking about the long term as well as the short term.
• Avoid putting yourself in a position where your duty to your charity conflicts with your personal interests or loyalty to any other person or body.
• You will not receive any benefit from Feline Care unless it is properly authorised and is clearly in Feline Care’s interests; this also includes anyone who is financially connected to you, such as a partner, dependent child or business partner.
• Act responsibly, reasonably and honestly.
• Avoid exposing Feline Care’s assets, beneficiaries or reputation to undue risk.
• Avoid over-committing Feline Care.
• Take special care when investing or borrowing and comply with any restrictions on spending funds or selling land.
• Put appropriate procedures and safeguards in place and take reasonable steps to ensure that these are followed.
• Use reasonable care and skill, making use of your skills and experience and taking appropriate advice when necessary.
• Give enough time, thought and energy to your role, for example by preparing for, attending and actively participating in all trustees’ meetings.
• Ensure accountability within the charity, particularly where you delegate responsibility for particular tasks or decisions to staff or volunteers.
• Along with other Trustees, recruit future trustees and senior management.

Suitability to act as a Trustee

Asides a genuine passion for cats, all Trustees must meet the following requirements

• Be over 18 years old.
• Have no previous convictions involving dishonesty or deception.
• Have not been on the sex offenders register.
• Have no unspent convictions.
• Not be bankrupt (undischarged) or have an individual voluntary arrangement (IVA).
